People Need People

“People need people,”
“I have people. I have friends. I don’t have time for more than that.”
“But people need people.”
“You sound like a Dr. Seuss book.”

People do need people, though. She was right. People need people because no one cares about the loneliness, or the stress. No one cares about the boredom. We care about who it is that you miss when you’re lonely. We care about who it is that you take it out on when you’re stressed. We care about who it is that you’re thinking of when you’re bored.

We care about interaction, about connection, about how we, the pieces, fit together once the dust settles. Because it’s one of the only secrets the world can keep from us. And everybody cares about a secret.

So what happens when there's nothing to tell? Sometimes the people that you miss are basically figments of your imagination, and the actual people you think about when you're bored just make it .even.more.boring. The faces that appear in your head just serve to remind you that no one makes you get lost in a daydream anymore.

  2. A guy goes nuts if he ain't got nobody. Don't make no difference who the guy is, long's he's with you. I tell ya, I tell ya a guy gets too lonely an' he gets sick.

  3. i'd tell you you're beautiful, too, but i don't know who you are. so. you know. *awkward jellyfish* but everyone's beautiful, am I right?

AND OF MICE AND MEN QUOTES. YOU'RE MY HERO. AND I'M PRETTY SURE YOU'RE SARAH. AND LEMME TELL YOU, IF YOU'RE SARAH, I MISS YOU.

but if you just happen to not be Sarah, I still like you. I promise.

  4. Fun fact: Dr Suess actually wrote his books for adults. He was turned down a few hundred times before he was first published.

  5. Another fun, more widely known fact: Horton was a Dr. Seuss Character. Sadly I'm pretty certain he was not inspired by any family members...
